PIKITUP invites applications from suitably qualified and interested individuals for four hundred (400) General Worker positions within the Operations Department. These positions are available at various depots, depending on operational needs and service delivery requirements.
The purpose of the General Worker role is to provide essential operational and support services that enable PIKITUP to function effectively and efficiently. General Workers play a critical role in maintaining clean, safe, and well-organised work environments, supporting daily operations, and ensuring that services are delivered reliably to the communities served by the organisation. This position is suitable for individuals who are dependable, hardworking, and willing to contribute positively to a structured working environment.
The General Worker position falls under Task Level 1 / A1 and reports directly to a Team Leader. Successful candidates will work as part of a team and will be expected to follow instructions, comply with workplace rules, and perform assigned duties to the required standard. The role involves practical, hands-on work and may require physical effort as part of normal daily duties.
This position offers a basic monthly salary of R10 616.38, excluding benefits, and provides an opportunity for individuals to gain valuable work experience within a large operational environment. Appointments will be made in line with PIKITU policies, procedures, and applicable labour legislation.
Purpose of the Role
The main purpose of the General Worker role is to support the Operations Department by carrying out a range of general duties that contribute to the smooth running of depots and operational sites. General Workers assist with day-to-day activities that ensure facilities, equipment, and workspaces are kept clean, functional, and safe.
General Workers are essential to the organisation’s ability to meet its operational goals. Their work supports supervisors, skilled workers, and other staff members by ensuring that basic but important tasks are completed efficiently. Through their contribution, General Workers help maintain service standards and promote a safe and productive working environment.
Key Responsibilities
While specific duties may vary depending on the depot and operational requirements, General Workers will generally be responsible for performing a combination of the following tasks:

Carrying out general labour duties such as cleaning, sweeping, and maintaining work areas

Assisting with the loading, off-loading, and movement of materials, tools, and equipment

Supporting daily operational activities as directed by the Team Leader

Ensuring that depots and workspaces remain clean, orderly, and free from hazards

Handling basic tools and equipment responsibly and in accordance with safety guidelines

Following all workplace health and safety rules, procedures, and instructions

Assisting other team members with tasks where support is required

Reporting damaged equipment, safety risks, or unusual conditions to the Team Leader

Ensuring punctual attendance and reliable performance of duties

Carrying out any other reasonable tasks assigned by the Team Leader in line with operational needs
All duties must be performed with care, responsibility, and respect for colleagues, supervisors, and organisational property.
Working Environment
General Workers will be based at various depots and may work in indoor or outdoor environments, depending on operational requirements. The work may involve exposure to different weather conditions and physical activity, including standing for long periods, lifting, or moving materials.
The working environment is structured and supervised, with clear reporting lines and established procedures. General Workers are expected to work cooperatively as part of a team and to contribute to a respectful and professional workplace culture. Adherence to safety standards is a key requirement, and all employees must comply with health and safety regulations at all times.
